IMPRESS announces recruitment of a new Chair

IMPRESS is seeking to appoint a new Chair to lead our Board and to work with our CEO to deliver a new phase of expansion and impact.

IMPRESS is a growing and established approved press regulator that has ambitions to further expand over the next five-year period. We are seeking to find a new Chair to replace Walter Merricks CBE, who is set to stand down in March 2022, having completed his final term of appointment.

In the last year alone IMPRESS has seen a 35% growth in its membership. As we maintain our approved regulator status over the next decade, we will be growing and consolidating our membership and further developing our fundraising capabilities. The next chapter for IMPRESS is about tackling complex topics such as media literacy and focusing on public understanding of ethical standards and rights of redress. Our new Chair will be required to champion IMPRESS externally, as well as leading the Board.

The new Chair will be appointed in line with set criteria governing the appointment of the Chair and Board of IMPRESS, as outlined in the Royal Charter on self-regulation of the press. The recognition criteria provides that the Chair of IMPRESS can only be appointed if nominated by an independent Appointment Panel following a fair, open and transparent process, without any influence from industry or Government.

The closing date to apply is Monday 29th November 2021.

The Appointment Panel has selected search specialist and recruitment firm Starfish to manage the process and all enquiries about the role should be made to them.

Further information about the role, the selection criteria and how to apply is available here.
