IMPRESS-regulated publications supported by the European Journalism Centre and the Facebook Journalism Project

The European Journalism Centre have announced the first wave of grantees for their Facebook-funded European Emergency Fund to address critical business needs caused by COVID-19.

Ten local and independent news publishers in the UK have received grants, the highest number of grantees out of the 20 countries in the list of beneficiaries. Out of the 10 publications receiving grants, 6 are regulated by IMPRESS.

Ed Procter, CEO: “We are glad to see support reaching independent news publications in these difficult times. It is great to see that 60% of UK grantees adhere to high standards of reporting, for the benefit of the communities they serve, through their IMPRESS membership.”

IMPRESS-regulated publications selected in this first wave of grantees include: Bedford Independent,, Llanelli Standard, On The Wight, Local Communications Limited and Social Spider CIC. UPDATE: A new round of grantees announced on 11 June 2020 included a further three IMPRESS-regulated publishers: Star and Crescent, West Leeds Community Media and VIEWDigital.  

IMPRESS regulates a network of 140+ independent news publications, which range from local and hyperlocal titles, to regional, special interest publications and national and international investigative titles.
